Salary: $47,000 – $52,000 per year (based on experience)

Position Summary

The Assistant Program Director plays a key leadership role in supporting daily program operations for Pyramid Healthcare’s behavioral health and substance use treatment programs in Asheville, NC. This position oversees resident care, social and recreational programming, and support services while ensuring compliance with Pyramid Healthcare policies, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.

The Assistant Program Director partners closely with the Executive Director and interdisciplinary team to support staffing, scheduling, quality assurance initiatives, and overall program effectiveness.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to address and resolve issues impacting resident care, social programming, and recreational services.

  • Provide consultation and support for resident services, including enrichment and recreational programming.

  • Assist with the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of program policies, procedures, and treatment programming.

  • Support recruitment efforts, including reviewing resumes, participating in interviews, and onboarding new staff.

  • Ensure daily program schedules are followed and operations run efficiently and on time.

  • Monitor Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) documentation for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness in the EMR system.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, accreditation, and Pyramid Healthcare standards and policies.

  • Develop, maintain, and adjust staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage and meet operational needs.

  • Assist leadership with audits, KPI tracking, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Facilitate group therapy sessions as needed based on program and staffing needs.

  • Conduct quality assurance activities including chart reviews, meetings, reporting, and direct observation.

  • Evaluate program needs, identify service gaps, and recommend program modifications as needed.

  • Interface with internal programs, referral sources, and community partners to support client and program needs.

  • Organize and oversee resident care services, including social, recreational, volunteer, and personal care programming.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of client, employee, and organizational information.

  • Complete required trainings per Pyramid Healthcare and licensing/accreditation standards.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision for Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs), Housekeeping, and Dietary staff.

  • Responsibilities include hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, coaching, performance management, and progressive discipline to ensure high standards of care and performance.


Required Qualifications

Education & Experience (North Carolina):

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a substance use disorder or behavioral health treatment setting required.

  • 2–3 years of supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License required.

  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification preferred (or ability to obtain upon hire).

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a fast-paced clinical environment.

  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately during crisis or high-risk situations.

  • Working knowledge of behavioral health regulations, accreditation standards, and compliance requirements.
