Behavioral Health Technician Lead (BHT Lead)

Position Summary

The Behavioral Health Technician Lead (BHT Lead) plays a key leadership role within the treatment team at Grace House. In addition to performing all core Behavioral Health Technician (BHT) duties, the BHT Lead provides shift-level oversight of clients and BHT staff, ensuring adherence to program policies, safety protocols, and therapeutic standards. This role serves as a primary point of communication between frontline staff and program leadership to promote consistency, quality care, and a positive treatment environment.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide on-shift leadership and guidance to Behavioral Health Technicians, ensuring all BHT responsibilities are carried out effectively

  • Communicate critical client and program information during shift transitions to ensure continuity of care

  • Assist with scheduling and coverage for the BHT team

  • Support and facilitate the intake and orientation process for new clients

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant client documentation

  • Observe and document client self-administration of medications in accordance with policy

  • Coordinate and oversee daily client activities and programming

  • Support treatment plan objectives and respond to individualized client needs

  • Provide client transportation as required

  • Assess behavioral and emotional needs of clients and respond appropriately, including crisis intervention when necessary

  • Ensure a safe, clean, and orderly therapeutic environment

  • Assist with client dietary needs and meal coordination

  • Complete all required training in accordance with company policies and accreditation/licensing standards

  • Perform other duties as assigned


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provide training, coaching, and daily direction to the BHT team

  • Serve as a role model for professional conduct, therapeutic boundaries, and ethical care


Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Preferred: Minimum of 2 years of experience in behavioral health or general healthcare

  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to assess situations, problem-solve, and make sound decisions

  • Ability to manage crisis situations and respond to potential safety risks

  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and regulatory compliance standards

  • Commitment to ethical practices and maintaining therapeutic boundaries


Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, and use of hands

  • Occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or twisting

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and carry up to 25 pounds regularly

  • Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, color vision, and focus adjustment


Work Environment

  • Indoor, moderately quiet treatment setting

  • Exposure to communicable illnesses and potentially traumatic situations, including psychiatric emergencies

  • Local travel required; reliable personal transportation is necessary

  • Schedule based on operational needs
