🕗 Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM


Summary
Pyramid Healthcare is seeking a Family Mentor to join our dedicated team in Asheville, NC. The Family Mentor uses their own lived experience to support families involved with the Department of Social Services (DSS). In collaboration with DSS and Pyramid Healthcare, this role provides compassionate guidance, advocacy, and resource support to help families navigate services, meet goals, and stay engaged throughout the recovery or reunification process.


Compensation
💰 $24–$25 per hour
This position may be subject to state or local wage transparency requirements. Actual compensation will vary based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and internal equity.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a peer support advocate, using lived experience to connect with and motivate families involved with DSS services.

  • Provide consistent outreach, mentorship, and encouragement as families work through treatment and case plan requirements.

  • Follow all guidelines and expectations set by DSS and Pyramid Healthcare.

  • Maintain regular communication with DSS caseworkers, treatment providers, and other referral sources as directed.

  • Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team, offering insights from a family-centered perspective.

  • Prepare and conduct progress or concurrent reviews for referral sources as assigned.

  • Accurately document all client and collateral contacts in the electronic record system in a timely manner.

  • Participate in internal peer record reviews to ensure documentation quality and compliance.

  • Transport clients to and from community-based services and appointments, as appropriate and approved.

  • Maintain discretion and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency policies.

  • Complete all required company and licensing/accreditation trainings.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education, Licensure, & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Must have lived experience as a parent, caregiver, or family member involved with the Department of Social Services (DSS) or child welfare system.

  • Experience navigating recovery, reunification, or family support services preferred.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to engage and build trust with diverse families.

  • Understanding of the challenges families face when involved with DSS and related systems.

  • Ability to model and promote recovery-oriented and trauma-informed practices.

  • Basic understanding of documentation and record-keeping standards.

  • Professional boundaries and confidentiality awareness consistent with HIPAA.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team setting.

  • Knowledge of local community resources and support systems.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing needs and priorities.

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to transport clients, if needed.


Physical Demands
The employee is frequently required to talk, hear, sit, use hands, and reach with arms. Occasional standing, walking, stooping, or lifting up to 25 pounds may be required. Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.


Work Environment
The work environment is typically moderately quiet and indoors. Local travel is required, and employees must provide their own reliable transportation. Schedule is based on operational needs.
