Licensure & Education Requirements (North Carolina)

Must be LCAS or LCAS-A eligible (required).

Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.

Other acceptable credentials include LCMHC, LCMHC-A, LCSW, LCSW-A, or full licensure as a CADC (for candidates in chemical dependency programs).
Summary
The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for facilitating all clinical services in accordance with Pyramid Healthcare’s standards, program philosophy, and regulatory guidelines. This position plays a vital role in supporting clients through assessment, therapy, and individualized treatment planning to promote long-term recovery and wellness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Evaluate behavioral, emotional, cognitive, spiritual, and social needs of clients and families.

Collaborate regularly with the treatment team to develop and monitor individualized treatment goals.

Facilitate all assigned clinical services, including individual, family, and group therapy sessions.

Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation in the Electronic Client Record (ECR) system per program policy.

Participate in utilization review (UR) processes and provide supporting documentation as required.

Assist with aftercare planning and the collection of outcome data.

Contribute to the development of program-specific curriculum, therapeutic resources, and staff training materials.

Participate in the on-call rotation as directed by the supervisor.

Conduct Level of Care Assessments as required.

Ensure a safe, orderly, and therapeutic environment for clients, including effective crisis intervention when needed.

Complete all mandatory trainings and adhere to all program and company policies.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Experience

Prior work experience in mental health or substance use treatment settings is strongly preferred.
