The Assistant General Counsel will provide legal support to the organization on a wide range of healthcare, regulatory, and corporate matters. This role is ideal for an attorney with 1–5 years of experience seeking broad exposure to healthcare law in an in-house environment. The position requires strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to partner with business and clinical leaders to provide practical, solutions-oriented advice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including service agreements, vendor agreements, business associate agreements, managed care contracts, and other healthcare-related arrangements.
  • Advise on compliance with federal and state healthcare laws and regulations, including HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, and state licensing requirements.
  • Support internal compliance and risk management initiatives, including policy development, investigations, and training.
  • Provide legal guidance on employment, patient care, and medical staff issues in coordination with outside counsel when necessary.
  • Assist with corporate governance, including drafting resolutions, maintaining corporate records, and supporting Board and committee meetings.
  • Manage and respond to subpoenas, government inquiries, audits, and litigation matters with support from external counsel.
  • Work cooperatively with outside attorneys and consultants.
  • Collaborate with clinical, compliance, HR, and operations teams to develop practical solutions that align with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay current on healthcare regulatory and industry developments and communicate relevant updates to leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned by General Counsel.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, with ability to obtain in-house counsel registration if required.
  • 1–5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably with exposure to healthcare law in a law firm, government agency, or in-house setting.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory environment (HIPAA, Stark, AKS, reimbursement, licensing, accreditation).
  • Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior in-house legal experience in healthcare or life sciences.
  • Experience supporting compliance programs, internal investigations, or audits.
  • Familiarity with behavioral health, long-term care, or hospital operations.
