Life Skills Specialist

We offer behavioral healthcare services – psychiatry, addiction recovery, mental disorder treatment, etc. – that allow clients at all stages of recovery or rehabilitation to reclaim health and well-being.
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Life Skills Specialist to join our inpatient team. In this role, you will provide direct client care, help maintain a safe and structured therapeutic environment, and lead life skills and recovery-based programming.
This position is ideal for someone passionate about supporting individuals in recovery, mentoring staff, and contributing to a strong team culture.
Schedule
- Monday–Friday 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Key Responsibilities
Direct Client Care & Support
- Provide daily supervision, support, and engagement for adults in treatment
- Monitor client behavior and ensure safety and well-being
- Foster a structured, recovery-oriented therapeutic milieu
Life Skills & Group Facilitation
- Facilitate and co-lead educational and recovery-focused groups, including:
- Coping skills
- Relapse prevention
- Daily living and life skills
- Teach and reinforce recovery principles, including 12-Step concepts (AA/NA)
- Encourage client participation in programming and activities
Treatment Team Collaboration
- Observe, document, and report client behaviors and progress
- Communicate effectively with clinical staff, families, and external partners
- Support the implementation of individualized treatment plans
Admissions & Client Orientation
- Provide orientation to new clients on:
- Program expectations
- Facility structure
- Available resources
Program & Operations Support
- Assist with client transportation to appointments or approved outings
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation
- Support a clean, safe, and therapeutic physical environment
- Complete administrative and clerical duties as needed
- Attend required trainings, meetings, and professional development
Professional Standards
- Maintain confidentiality (HIPAA compliance) at all times
- Follow all program, safety, and infection control policies
- Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions
- Respond calmly and effectively in crisis situations
Qualifications
Required
- High School Diploma or GED
- 2+ years of experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or related field
Preferred
- Associate degree in a behavioral health or human services field
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of substance use disorders and mental health treatment
- Familiarity with HIPAA, licensing, and CARF standards
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-based, fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and responsive in crisis situations
- Ability to be flexible, dependable, and committed to ongoing learning and development
