Now Hiring: ACT Peer Recovery Specialist – Newport News, VA

Pyramid Healthcare is expanding its services in the Newport News area with the launch of a new Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT)—a multidisciplinary program designed to deliver intensive, community-based behavioral health care for individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness.
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Peer Recovery Specialist to join our ACT team. In this role, you will use your lived experience to inspire hope, support recovery, and advocate for the needs and goals of the individuals we serve.
Schedule:
Full-time | Monday–Friday with rotating on-call responsibilities
Compensation:
18-22$ per hour.
What You'll Do:

Serve as a fully integrated member of the ACT team, delivering direct peer support to individuals with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use challenges.

Use your lived experience to build trusting relationships, offer emotional support, and model recovery principles in everyday interactions.

Assist individuals with navigating services and accessing community resources, including housing, employment, and healthcare.

Help individuals set and achieve recovery-oriented goals while maintaining focus on their personal strengths and autonomy.

Facilitate peer-led support groups and participate in treatment planning and team discussions.

Support emergency interventions including crisis response, hospital diversion, and after-hours assessments as needed.

Document services in accordance with program requirements and participate in regular team meetings and planning sessions.
Qualifications:
-
Must be a current or former recipient of mental health services for a severe and persistent mental illness.

Certified Peer Recovery Specialist in accordance with 12VAC35-250, or must obtain certification within the first year of employment (required).

Ability to provide leadership in supporting others' recovery goals within a team-based care model.

Valid CPR/BLS certification (required).

Valid driver’s license (required).

Strong communication skills and a commitment to ethical, recovery-oriented peer support practices.
